Potayadjo Shelter
September 7, 1981 -Cooper Brook Lean-to below to Potayadjo Shelter-94
Antlers camp. A very nice old abandoned camp used by hunters originally but taken over by hikers now. We sat
around and rested in the beds in the little cottages. We finally left after almost deciding to stay. Made it to Sand
Beach where we all went swimming on the best beach I have seen on this trip. This beach has white sand like
Daytona Beach in Florida and the water was not too cold and it was great! This beach was totally deserted. It was
probably the hottest day I had seen in many a day. It was in the mid to upper 80's and a perfect day for a beach.
Finally we all left the beach and hiked to the shelter by 5:00 p.m. The shelter had an Indian name. (Potaywadjo
Shelter) This place had a very nice spring. 18 foot square. It reminded me of the springs back home in Florida.
This was the night of the biggest bond fire yet. Great time! 34.3 more miles to go at days end.

At this point I am 29.4 miles from the end. It is a bitter sweet ending for I will never feel this way again I know. I have
met many people and many have become my good friends. We will soon go our separate ways. We should cherish
the last few days while we still have them. It has been great. Words can not describe how much this victory means to
me. Long live the Appalachian Trail!!! On to Abol Bridge and my final pig out. HALL ASS!!!!!!!
