A great day to relax, after the clam bake.
August 16, 1981         - Biddeford Maine to Gorham New Hampshire-

We all got up at around 8:30 a.m.  I drank some coffee and prepared to get back to the trail.  We got rides back to
the trail by relatives from the party who lived near the trail.  I got to Gorham N.H. at 1:00 p.m.  I bought a few
groceries and will day hike tomorrow.  I will walk south from Gorham back to Pinkham Notch.  This is rough going and
will take a full day hike to complete it.  I am staying in the (barn) hostile tonight.  We aborted this hike because it was
just too bad in the winds and rain.

August 17, 1981     - Day hiked and stayed at the Barn in Gorham again-

Day hiked 5½ miles and it was so cold and rainy and since it was up above tree line it was very miserable walking.  I
came back off mountain and aborted the day hike.   I will try again tomorrow.  BUMMED!   I am staying at the barn
again.  We did the right thing by coming off the mountain.  The weather was so bad it was blowing us all over the
place and trees were falling down around us.
Pinkham Notch from the Wildcat Range
August 18, 1981    -Pinkham Notch to Gorham New Hampshire-

Got up early and hitched to Pinkham Notch for another try at a very long day hike.  The hike today will be from south
to north.  Beautiful weather.  A little cold and windy but very clear.  I walked with Marjo all day.  Stopped in at Carter
Notch Hut and ate lunch.  This is the most beautiful notch yet for me because of the great weather.  Got back into
Gorham at around 6:00 p.m. and was very tired.  Took shower and ate supper at McDonald’s and did laundry with
Marjo.  I am at the barn here tonight again.  John and Candy and Mary and Mary are here too.   Went to bed early.
On we go.

August 19, 1981       - Gorham at the Barn to Gentian Pond-

I was a hard hike from Gorham N.H. to Gentian Pond Shelter. but it also was a  beautiful day.  I took many pictures
and ate many blueberries!!  Looking forward to Maine.  The shelter here is very nice and with a great View.  The
outhouse is a solar one.    Look out Maine, Here I Come!!!
