Mount Greylock, 2006, Bascomb Lodge
July 21, 1981 -Dalton Mass. to Greylock Lodge-
Left late after having breakfast with Laura and Pete. Walked to Greylock summit, which is the highest point in Mass.
I stayed there at a small lodge for 6 dollars a night. Pete is here too and so Is Frank McGuire. I had supper here
too for $3.00. The fog is very bad here. You can t see 10 feet in front of you. Will be in Vermont tomorrow!!!!!
July 22, 1981 - Greylock lodge to Seth Warner Shelter-
Left Grey1ock at 1:000 a.m. No view. Still foggy. Walked with Pete and Frank to Williamstown Mass. Pete went
into town and Frank and I sat around and then went across street to small grocery store and ate some junk food
and drank Pepsi. Walked 6.8 more miles to Seth Warner shelter. Finally in Vermont!! Wrote Laura a letter at the
Vermont border where there was a log book on a tree. We got to the shelter at 7:30 p.m. It is very cold here. Got
fire going. Five people here.

Left Seth Warner Shelter at 7:30 a.m. Hike to the Bennington Vermont turn off and hitched a ride into town where
Pete, Frank and I ate lunch at McDonalds. Made it to Nauheim Shelter. We will try for 17 miles tomorrow. The
stinking mice bothered us all night. Pete got up three times and threw things at them.
